Generation Ship

A Generation Ship is a vessel created to enable the colonization of planets in star systems outside of the Solar System. The vessels were created long in advance of the discovery of jump technology, as well as S.A. Modules and Hibernators, and could therefore take over 100 years to reach their destinations (rather than hours), even at the speeds they travelled, accelerating up to 4% of the speed of light. As such, the original crew would age and die, leaving their descendants to continue on towards the intended destination.

Generation Ships have long since been retired from service, existing only as museums.
