S.A. Module

A Suspended Animation Module is a device that is able to sustain a living entity and relieve them of their need for oxygen, food or water. The occupant of the module can theoretically survive for as long as there is power available to the system (or after many hundreds of years have passed). While under the control of the module, a person will age at a significantly decreased rate.

The module works by enclosing the occupant in a stasis field, that slows the passage of time. The fields were invented during investigations into jump technology. SA modules are generally only ever found on military craft and a handful of civilian craft.
