Poppy Castro was one of several dozen researchers and archaeologists based on Peri when the CSN launched Operation Clean Sweep against a number of insurgents secreted close to the dig sites.

During the evacuation she, along with a number of others, ran into Simon Dodds who was attempting to make it to an extraction zone, following a rough ditch in his Tactical Assault Fighter. Surprised, he opened fire on the group, badly wounding one and killing Poppy and Stefan Pitt.

A court-martial recorded a verdict of unlawful killing and sentenced Dodds to six months' suspension from duty. All appeals were rejected.

 

 

 

 

 

The Attribute of the Strong [Toggle Spoilers]

Castro came to Dodds in a dream he had on 25th December 2624, just before the Pandoran fleet arrived at Sol. In the dream, Dodds was being pursued by Jason Zackaria, who had killed his team-mates and left him for last. It was a recurrent dream, in which Dodds always ended up dead, having his throat cut by the Imperial Navy's ceremonial dagger.

Along with Pitt, Castro defended Dodds from Zackaria, restraining the admiral and allowing Dodds to escape. Before he did so, the two told him that they had forgiven him and that what had happened on Peri was an accident and nothing more. The words and realisation gave Dodds the strength he needed to push on through to victory in the final battle against the Pandoran fleet.
