Portable Shield

Portable shields were developed by the Mitikas Empire. The exact time that the shields were created and deployed to the military are unknown, but it is assumed that it had taken place during the civil war. The first time a portable shield was seen in use outside of the imperium was during the battle of Hunter's Square, when they were carried by a detachment of Pandoran soldiers. Oval in shape and attached to the user's forearm, the shields offer defence against ballistics, including energy weapon fire. The layer of protection is about 1/10th of that provided by a Jackal starfighter, but is still more than enough to fend off attacks from plasma-based rifle and pistol weaponry (though would buckle fast against the more powerful cannons found on vehicles). Like their cousins, they are quite vulnerable to disruption from laser fire.
