After the fall of the Indigo system, Fincham was transferred to Gabriel, and then to Sol, as the Pandoran army continued its advance across the galaxy. The stress and pressure of the war started to get to Fincham more and more, and his hotheaded nature caused him to start to fly off the handle more often. These incidents largely involved a lot of shouting, and only one instance of a physical assault.

On 25th December, 2624, Fincham attempted to murder Estelle de Winter and Simon Dodds, coming to their quarters under the guise of escorting the two ATAF pilots to a strategy meeting. He brought a knife, wishing to kill the pair without alerting Earth Orbital's systems to gunfire, so that he could flee from Sol once the deed was done. He failed to kill them, however, Dodds and Estelle managing to overcome him, and Dodds knocking him out.

It was discovered later that Fincham had been acting alongside Brandon Walsh, who had chosen to hijack the Prince of Midnight and flee Sol with the allied forces' last remaining nuclear bombs. Finchham was locked up for the remainder of the war, but the Prince of Midnight was never recovered.
